Winter Weather Expected Tonight through Monday Night

Drizzle or light rain this evening, will begin to transition to freezing rain and then become mostly snow by around midnight across central Kansas. The transition zone of rain to freezing rain and wintry mix will drift southeast through the overnight hours. Light snow and ice accumulations will be possible before sunrise.

Snow, sleet, and freezing rain will impact much of the area through the day on Monday. Snow and ice accumulations will be possible. Be sure to proceed with caution if traveling during the morning commute on Monday.

The heaviest snowfall amounts will along and north of a Great Bend to Salina line. Snow and sleet amounts will be 2 to 5 inches, with some locally higher amounts possible along Interstate 70.

Most of the ice accumulation will be on elevated surfaces including power lines and trees. Leaves still on trees will be a concern, as the greater surface area will make trees susceptible to limbs breaking.

Monday Night – A chance of snow before 10 p.m, then a chance of snow and freezing drizzle between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m., then a chance of snow after 11pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 18. North wind 7 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Tuesday – A 30 percent chance of snow before 1 p.m. Mostly sunny, with a high near 34. North northwest wind around 8 mph.
