A Salina Man was killed in a two vehicle crash in Thomas County last Wednesday afternoon.

According to a Kansas Highway Patrol report, a 2021 Toyota Prius driven by Frank T. Herrman, 75, was traveling eastbound on Interstate 70, about six miles east of Colby, at about 3:30 p.m., when the vehicle briefly exited the westbound lanes to the right. The Prius then entered the westbound lanes again and drove across both westbound lanes, crossed the median and collided with an eastbound 2019 Dodge Ram 2500 driven by Bethany G. Vargas, 27, Breckenridge, Colorado. The Prius came to rest in the south ditch, while the Dodge pickup came to rest in the driving lane of eastbound I-70.

Herrman was pronounced dead at the scene and transported to a funeral home in Colby. Vargas was taken to Citizens Medical Center in Colby for treatment of suspected serious injuries.

The KHP reports that Vargas was properly restrained at the time of the crash, but the report did not indicate if Herrman was wearing a seat belt.
