Reminder...

Sales tax in Salina and Saline County has increased today.

The sales tax rate was increased 1/2% from 8.75% to 9.25% after Saline County voters approved a referendum in November to allow for the tax to pay for bonds that will build a new Saline County Sheriff’s Office and Saline County Jail just southeast of the intersection of Front Street and Pacific Avenue.

With the increase, a $100 purchase, will now cost an extra 50 cents. The increase will generate about $6 million each year. The sales tax increase will end once bonds for the project are paid off.

Groundbreaking for the new facility is expected to take place this fall and completion of the projected is expected in the fall of 2023.

It was selected, I believe, by the county as well as the Sheriff.
Projects like this should be put before the population. We sure need new commissioners and a sheriff as they just do things that many do not agree on.
