In the United States, 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in his lifetime according to the Prostate Cancer Foundation. Unfortunately, there usually aren’t any early warning signs for prostate cancer. For many years the disease may be silent. That’s why screening for prostate cancer is such an important topic for all men and their families.

Visit with your primary provider if your family has history of prostate cancer. Men who have a relative with prostate cancer are twice as likely to develop the disease, while those with 2 or more relatives are nearly 4 times as likely to be diagnosed. The risk is even higher if the affected family members were diagnosed before age 65.
