DEVELOPING: Salina Police Investigating Monday Morning Shooting

New information has been released regarding a Monday morning shooting in north Salina.

According to a press release, Salina Police Officers were dispatched to the 500 block of E. Iron Avenue at approximately 4:06 a.m. on a report of several gunshots in the area.

Upon arrival, officers located a male subject lying in the street just west of the intersection with Front Street with an apparent gunshot wound. Salina EMS was summoned to the scene and the victim was transported to Salina Regional Health Center, where he was subsequently transferred to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita with life threatening injuries.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation Crime Scene unit was contacted for assistance processing the scene.

This case is being considered an attempted homicide and detectives are attempting to identify the victim and suspect(s). In addition, Salina Police Detectives are working to identify and locate persons who were in this area at the time of the shooting.

Iron Avenue, from 3rd Street to Oakdale Avenue, was closed to traffic while the scene was processed by Salina Police and the KBI. At approximately 2:40 p.m., that section of Iron was reopened to normal traffic.
