USD 305 has moved this season’s Salina South-Salina Central junior varsity and varsity basketball games from the Tony’s Pizza Events Center to each school’s home gymnasium for the 2017-2018 season.

Jennifer Bradford-Vernon, USD 305’s Public Information Director, tells The Salina Scoop the home gyms will be used this year with Central hosting in December and South hosting in February.

“For the past couple of years, we’ve been planning to host in our buildings once the new construction was complete,” Bradford-Vernon said. “Now with the new auxiliary gyms in both schools we should be able to accommodate the crowds. Efficiency is also gained because we won’t have fees associated with renting and we will capture the benefit of concessions.”

The district says this change will be evaluated after the current basketball season.

South and Central had played each other twice each season at the building previously known as the Salina Bicentennial Center since shortly after the facility opened in 1979.
