Salina Public Entities to Meet Wednesday Regarding the Former Schilling Air Force Base Environmental Matter

SALINA – A special joint meeting of the Salina Public Entities will convene later this week.

According to a media release, the meeting will take place on Wednesday, June 24 at 1:30 p.m. in Heritage Hall at The Tony’s Pizza Event Center, 800 The Midway. This special joint meeting will include the City of Salina Board of Commissioners, USD 305 School Board, Salina Airport Authority Board of Directors, and representatives of Kansas State University, and will be regarding the former Schilling Air Force Base environmental matter.

A brief overview of the Schilling Air Force Base groundwater contamination project will be provided by Tim Rogers, Salina Airport Authority Executive Director. A review of the Consent Decree and the Environmental Project Management Agreement will take place. The Consent Decree settles claims involving responsibility for environmental response actions and costs at the site of the former Schilling Air Force Base.

Each of the Entities will then consider a motion approving the proposed Consent Decree and authorize their respective designee to sign the document on their behalf.
