SALINA – With the addition of an eighth team to the Champions Indoor Football (CIF$ league, the Salina Liberty has released a revised schedule for the upcoming 2021 season.
Last week, the league announced the addition of the Wyoming Mustangs, a team based in Gillette, Wyoming, that will begin play in the CIF in 2021.
According to a media release from Champions Indoor Football (CIF), the Liberty will still play a total of 11 games in 2021, which includes a 10-game regular season slate (5 home, 5 away). The season will still kick off on March 20 at Tony’s Pizza Events Center with a preseason matchup against Arlington.
The revised 2021 Salina Liberty schedule is as follows:
- March 20 VS. Arlington
- March 27 VS. Oklahoma
- April 2 VS. West Texas
- April 10 at Amarillo
- April 24 VS. Omaha
- May 8 VS. Amarillo
- May 15 at Sioux City
- May 22 at Wichita
- May 29 VS. Sioux City
- June 6 at Amarillo
- June 13 at Wichita
Head Coach Heron O’Neal will return for his third season as the Liberty Head Coach and will look to secure the team’s first championship. The Liberty fell just short of a title victory in the 2019 Champions Bowl, losing to Duke City, 35-29. The 2020 season was canceled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
The 2021 season will feature eight member teams in the CIF. Along with the Liberty, the Wichita Force, Sioux City Bandits, Omaha Beef, Oklahoma Flying Aces, and Amarillo Venom will all return. In addition to the Wyoming Mustangs, the league will also include the new West Texas Warbirds. Based out of Odessa, Texas, the Warbirds were to have begun play in the 2020 season, but will instead take the field for the first time in 2021.
The Liberty will debut a brand new look on the field in 2021, after having purchased brand new field turf and dasher pads from the Philadelphia Soul of the now defunct AFL.
Additionally, the CIF previously announced that all games in 2021 will be streamed live on YouTube, which officially ends a four year relationship with Pluto TV.
