Section of Water Well Road Reopened After Road Work Completion

Water Well Road from Link Road to Powers Road will be reopened today March 21st following completion of a three-span (54′ – 72′ – 54′) concrete haunched slab bridge that replaced the deteriorated, corrugated metal, triple-barrel, load-rated (5 tons), crossroad drainage structure at Spring Creek. The structure is located 0.4 mile west of Powers Road. Saline County opened bids on the Water Well Road Bridge Replacement on April 11, 2016. The low bidder was King Construction Company, Inc. of Hesston, Kansas. They were awarded a contract for $596,374. Section of Country Club Closed for Asphalt Work

Country Club Road, from Simpson Road to Niles Road, was closed to through traffic Tuesday morning to allow crews from APAC-Kansas, Inc., Shears Division to place an asphalt leveling course and overlay. Closing the road to through traffic, while admittedly an inconvenience to the traveling public, greatly enhances safety for the paving crews and the traveling public as well. Burn Ban Issued in Saline County

Due to extremely dry conditions Saline County officials have issued a burn ban now in effect through Tuesday, March 28th. The National Weather Service office in Wichita says very high grassland fire danger will persist until around sunset Tuesday. Very high grassland fire danger is also forecast for the area from midday Thursday through Friday afternoon. Saline County is the 14th to issue a burn ban. Barton, Ellsworth and Russell Counties are among the others than currently have a burn ban in effect. BREAKING: Rural Fire Crews Battling Field and Structure Fire

Saline County Rural Firefighters are on the scene of what started as a field fire southeast of Salina in the 4400 block of S. Simpson Road. Reports from the scene indicate that a two story structure is now totally engulfed in flames as well. There have been no reports of injuries and no word on what started the fire. Salina JC Penney Not on Closing List

A list of 138 JC Penney stores to be closed that was released Friday does not include Salina’s Central Mall location. In February, the Plano, Texas based company announced they would be closing stores as part of their plan to optimize their retail operations. Rumors then began to circulate that the Salina store would be part of the closures, particularly after Sears, Radio Shack and Vanity announced they would be vacating their Central Mall locations. Little Caesars Pizza, 645 E. Crawford, will be closed from Monday, March 20th through Thursday, March 23rd for remodeling. The business, which is located in the Elmore Center, will reopen with a new look on Friday, March 24th. Vanity to Close Central Mall Location As Part of Bankruptcy Filing

North Dakota based clothing retailer Vanity has announced the closure of all 140 of its stores, including the Salina Central Mall location. Employees of the Salina store were notified of the closure on March 1st. Vanity’s announcement of the closures follows a filing of a voluntary petition for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of North Dakota. That petition was also filed on March 1st. Another Mall Store is Closing Its Doors

Radio Shack, which has been a tenant in the Central Mall since its opening in 1987, will close its doors next week. This location will combine with the Sunset Plaza location upon closing. Radio Shack becomes the second major tenant to leave the mall this month. Sears, which relocated to the mall in 1992, will close on March 26th.
