#DYK Rheba Crawford was known as “The Angel of Broadway?” The Salvation Army wanted to establish a foothold on Broadway so Rheba was asked to re-open the corps there. Rheba attracted as many as 5,000 people when she spoke for Jesus in Times Square. Journalist Damon Runyon wrote about this “Angel of Broadway,” which became the main source of inspiration for the movie “Guys and Dolls” (1955). #TriviaTuesday #SAHistory #WomensHistoryMonth ... #DidYouKnow: Johannes Brahms (1833-1897) was a German composer and pianist and is considered a leading composer in the romantic period. His best known pieces include his Academic Festival Overture and German Requiem.

The young Brahms was forced to play the piano in dance halls to contribute to the family's income as they were so poor. Brahms began composing when he was just 11. However, when he was older, he found them a bit embarrassing and destroyed the majority of them!

Johannes Brahms was one of the romantic period's most conflicted musical characters, and his symphonies are the perfect way to find out why. On March 31, the Salina Symphony will perform Beethoven & Brahms with guest artists Christina Bouey and Clive Greensmith.
