SALINE COUNTY – Rural firefighters from Saline, McPherson and Saline County worked to extinguish a large grass fire east of Salina Wednesday afternoon.
According to Saline County Emergency Management, the fire was initially reported around 2 p.m. in the area of Simpson and Magnolia Roads.
Fire crews, which also included the Salina Fire Department, quickly contained the blaze, which had spread rapidly across the area, which covered just over 100 acres.
Conditions across Kansas remain favorable for grassland fires, according to the National Weather Service. Grassland fire danger will remain high Thursday, as high wind gusts up to 40 miles per hour impact the area. A Wind Advisory is in effect for Saline County and much of the area through 4 a.m.
Fire crews in Cowley and Greenwood Counties in South Central Kansas have also been busy with large grassfires on Wednesday.
