) First Friday programming kicks off at 4 p.m. on Friday, September 6 with events including Art at the Nook featuring Charlotte Garrett, Terry Thompson and Blue Barn Door at The Flower Nook (208 E. Iron Ave.). At 4:30 p.m., the Visual Voices Gallery presents an artist reception for the work of Jenny Davis, with music by Nile Johnson at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship (901 Beatrice St.). At 5 p.m., Candice & The Business Casual plays at True Betty Boutique (108 N. Santa… Fe Ave.). Also at 5 p.m., Robert Joy’s work will be on display and open to the public at Peaceful Body Wellness Retreat (120 N. Santa Fe Ave.). The Temple is hosting an Open House/Celebration with music by The Rascals (336 S. Santa Fe Ave.). At 6 p.m., check out the Party With A Purpose and lip sync battle at Paramount Bar (219 N. Santa Fe Ave.). At 7 p.m., head down to Ad Astra Books & Coffee House (141 N. Santa Fe Ave.) for Philosophy of Lions, a psych-soul, fusion new-Americana band featuring catchy rhythms, thoughtful lyrics and dynamics that range from a purr to a full-on roar. This is a band that takes pride in its original songs and cooperates when hunting that next juicy riff or savory lyric. Philosophy of Lions is based in Manhattan, KS. Additionally, chalk artist Kimberly Vega will decorate Ad Astra Plaza just north of Ad Astra Books & Coffee House with planets, rockets, aliens and stars in various sizes. At 7 p.m., the public is invited to interact with this pop-up chalk environment and be a part of the design- floating through space and beyond! Salina Arts & Humanities, Salina Downtown Incorporated and downtown stakeholders present Friday Night Live—an arts and entertainment series for Salina residents and visitors designed to increase attendance and participation in arts-related events and to strengthen partnerships in the downtown arts district and satellite locations throughout the city.
