Sorry we don’t use kids under 16 and yes it would be Saturday and Sunday

I can help, and have kids that would probably be willing

I would love to help, how can we be of service, please message or call me 7858297401

I would if I wasn't out of town.

I’m a current class member of Citizens Academy. Let me know what I can do

Do we have to attend both days ?

Saturday and sunday?

We love station tours!Ms. Madison’s Head Start class had a great time at the Salina Fire Station #1. Some of the kids' favorite parts included: “sitting in the big chairs”, “seeing that they eat donuts like we do”, “watching them slide down the pole”, and “learning about the fire station family!" We emphasized safety and the role of firefighters as another safekeeper outside of the classroom. I appreciate all the parents who took the time to join us! We had a fun day. City of Salina
Today for On the Job, we feature the Salina Fire Department (SFD) and their firefighters. Their mission is to respond quickly, perform professionally, save lives and property, be caring and compassionate, and to “make sure everyone goes home.” Here are some quick facts about the SFD and their firefighters: Each year, they respond to more than 3,100 fire related emergencies and 6,800 EMS or medical related emergencies. In a 24 hour period, they respond to an average of 20 emergency calls. They average 9000+ alarms for service, which include: City Fire Suppression, City and County Ambulance Service, City and County Rescue Service, Fire Prevention and Public Education, Regional Technical Rescue Team, and Regional Hazmat Response Team. They have 80 firefighters who are spread across three 24-hour shirts that change daily at 8 a.m. They operate from four strategically located and staffed stations. Next time you see a firefighter, please don’t hesitate to show them your appreciation for all they do for our community! The City of Salina is currently hiring firefighters. The minimum requirements consist of Firefighter 1 and 2 certification, Haz Mat Ops certification, online FEMA classes (NIMS100,200,700,800), CPAT (candidate physical ability test), and a written fire service entrance exam. This whole process takes approximately 4-5 months to complete everything. To view the position description, benefits and apply, visit https://jobs.salina-ks.gov/index.cfm?get=openings&jid=1009 (firefighter/paramedic) or https://jobs.salina-ks.gov/index.cfm?get=openings&jid=1010 (firefighter/EMT). To learn more about the SFD visit http://www.salina-ks.gov/fire-department. The video below is of a training exercise.

Salina followers, it is much more dangerous out than our previous post implied. Our units are responding to multiple accidents and falls. It is very icy throughout the City/County. Please be extra careful if you must get out but our recommendation is stay indoors and not venture out.Drizzle and freezing rain will continue until early afternoon today then change over to snow with a mix of freezing rain into the early evening hours. Strong North winds will drive the temperatures down later today, so be sure to bundle up! No major ice or snow accumulations are expected; however elevated surfaces will be slick. Rain is expected to change to snow late Friday afternoon and end Saturday morning/early afternoon. Current indications suggest snow amounts of a dusting to three inches are possible. Very strong north winds will accompany the snow, which could drastically reduce visibilities, supporting hazardous travel conditions. The attached graphics show potential snow amounts, predicted onset timing, and expected single digit wind chills. Please be sure to stay tuned to local media as the snow amounts could change; but the hazards lie more with blowing snow and dangerous wind chills. Saline County Emergency Management ... Wednesday, January 16th – Areas of light freezing drizzle are expected this afternoon through tonight. Very light ice accumulations are likely and may create slick roads at times. Friday, January 18th into Saturday, January 19th – Snow chances continue to increase for Friday night thru Saturday. Strong winds and reduced visibilities are possible in snow and blowing snow. Much colder and windy weather is expected as well with Saturday afternoon temperatures only being in the 10s – 20s, with sub-zero wind chills. Snow amounts and exact location remain highly uncertain at this point! Please stay tuned as details become better refined over the next day or two. Saline County Emergency Management ...
