MCPHERSON COUNTY – One person was hospitalized after a crash involving two semis is McPherson County early Wednesday morning.
According to a Kansas Highway Patrol accident report, a 2015 Freightliner semi driven by Larry R. Magaee, 42, Magee, Miss., was traveling westbound on U.S. Highway 56, behind a 2016 Freightliner semi driven by Joseph Balikowa, 44, Tulsa, Okla., when Balikowa slowed his semi to make a left turn onto 7th Avenue, and was struck from behind by Magaee’s semi.
Magaee’s semi, which was carrying a load of baby chicks, then entered the ditch, overturned, and caught fire.
Balikowa was not injured. Magaee was treated at the scene for minor injuries: A passenger in Magaee’s semi, Lester D. Curry, 58, Utica, Miss., was transported to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita for treatment of suspected serious injuries.
Balikowa was properly restrained at the time of the crash, while Magaee and Curry were not wearing seat belts.
The crash occurred at about 7:50 a.m., according to the KHP report.
