Hays Woman Injured in Ellsworth County Crash

ELLSWORTH COUNTY – An Ellis County woman was hospitalized after a single vehicle crash in Ellsworth County Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2008 Dodge Dakota driven by Patricia Yvonne Schmid, 60, Hays, was traveling westbound on K-156 Highway, about 10 miles west of K-14 Highway, she lost control of the vehicle on the slick roadway. The vehicle went off of the right hand side of the roadway, spun approximately 180 degrees, before striking a concrete culvert, which caused the vehicle to flip completely over and come to rest on its wheels facing northeast in the ditch.

Schmid was taken to Clara Barton Hospital in Hoisington for treatment of suspected serious injuries. A passenger in the vehicle, Sarah Lorraine Kyner, 38, Hoisington, suffered a possible injury, but was not transported for further treatment.

Both women were properly restrained at the time of the crash, which occurred just before 3:45 p.m., according to the KHP report.
