UPDATE: Atchison Woman Hospitalized After Two Vehicle Accident at South Salina Intersection

UPDATE: An Atchison woman was hospitalized after a two vehicle accident at a south Salina intersection Saturday afternoon.

According to the Salina Police Department, James Sumpter, 45, Atchison, was driving a 2007 Dodge Caravan northbound on Highland Avenue just before 3 p.m., when he failed to yield to a 2013 Ford Escape driven by Crystal Smith, 40, Salina, that was traveling westbound on Belmont Boulevard.

The two vehicles collided causing Smith’s Ford to roll over on its top.

A passenger in the van, Lisa Sumpter, 53, was taken to Salina Regional Health Center for treatment of a possible head injury. Sumpter, two other passengers in the van, and Smith were not injured.

Sumpter was cited at the scene for failure to yield, according to police.

First responders have been sent to a south Salina intersection to a two vehicle accident in which one vehicle has rolled over.

Information obtained by The Salina Scoop indicates that two vehicles collided at the intersection of Highland Avenue and Belmont Boulevard just before 3 p.m. and one of those vehicles has rolled over onto its top.

The two vehicles were described as a minivan and an SUV. Preliminary information indicates the occupants of the two vehicles appear to be okay.

Traffic is being re-routed in the area.
