Two Killed, Teenager Hospitalized After Two Vehicle Accident in McPherson County

MCPHERSON COUNTY – Two people were killed and a teenager hospitalized after a two vehicle accident in McPherson County Thursday evening.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, Timothy P. Kersten, 57, Hillsboro, was driving a 1994 Ford truck east on U.S. Highway 56, about five miles east of McPherson, when for an unknown reason, he crossed the center line into the path of a 2001 Honda SUV driven by Abby J. McIntosh, 34, Galva.

The two vehicles collided head-on on the westbound shoulder of the highway.

Kersten and McIntosh were both pronounced dead at the scene and were both transported to the Regional Forensic Science Center in Wichita. A passenger in McIntosh’s SUV, Jade S. Richardson, 13, Galva, was taken to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita for treatment of her injuries, the extent of which were not immediately known.

McIntosh was not properly restrained at the time of the accident, according to the Highway Patrol. It is not known if Kersten was wearing a seat belt. Richardson was properly restrained, according the KHP report.

The accident happened at about 8:49 p.m. Thursday.
