Snake Blamed for Monday Morning Power Outage

A snake is believed to the culprit in a power outage that effected several hundred customers in downtown Salina Monday morning.

Westar Energy said the animal crawled into some equipment inside a power substation near 3rd and North Streets and damaged a circuit, causing nearly 900 customers to lose power at around 8:30 a.m.

The outage impacted customers from South Street to north of Elm Street. The Salina Public Library and Sonic Drive-In were among several of those effected. Power was also lost to traffic signals at the intersection of 9th and Elm.

Power was fully restored by about 9:45 a.m.
