Saline County Food Establishment and Lodging Inspections, September 8-14, 2018

Food Establishment and Lodging Inspections conducted in Saline County by the Kansas Department of Agriculture’s Division of Food Safety and Lodging from September 8 through September 14, 2018.

Food safety and lodging inspections are unannounced, and inspection results represent only those conditions found in the establishment at the time of the inspection.

An inspection conducted on any given day may not be representative of the overall, long-term cleanliness of an establishment. Also, at the time of the inspection, violations are recorded, but are often corrected on site prior to the inspector leaving the establishment.

Assaria Oil & Hardware, 104 W. Main St. – Assaria (September 13) Routine Inspection
– No violations.

Auntie Rita’s Jamaican Cuisine, 1315 S. Santa Fe Ave. (September 11) First Operational Inspection After Licensing
– On top of the kitchen prep table, the cooked chicken was in the process of cooling inside a plastic container with a lid secured on top. The chicken temperature was 102 degrees F. Per the cook, chicken had been there only 20 minutes. Corrected on site: removed lid and placed inside of reach-in cooler.
– Macaroni and cheese with temperature of 121 degrees F was setting on top of counter in back prep area for 30 minutes, per cook. Corrected on site: cook educated and macaroni and cheese was re-heated.

Best of 50’s & 60’s, 2259 S. 9th St. – Suite 146 (September 12) First Operational Inspection After Licensing
– Raw hamburger and raw bacon was stored on shelf above fresh celery inside two-door reach-in cooler. Corrected on site: moved raw meats to bottom shelf.
– Pan of butter with temperature of 85 degrees F had been setting on stove top since day before inspection. Corrected on site: educated and pan of butter voluntarily disposed.
– Made on-site chicken salad and hard boiled eggs were not dated when made. Corrected on site: person in charge stated items were made September 10. Dated September 10/September 16.
– Hose attached to faucet of mop sink was hanging below the flood rim. Corrected on site: hung above flood rim.

Coronado Elementary School, 2725 E. Ray Ave. (September 13) Routine Inspection
– No violations.

DQ Grill & Chill Restaurant, 1000 Buckeye Ave. (September 12) Routine Inspection
– No violations.

Homestead Steaks, 2259 S. 9th St. (September 11) Licensing Inspection
– No violations.
– Note: selling inspected pre-packaged meat and seafood from a rented refer truck and tent in parking lot. Frozen food is frozen. Licensing inspection passed.

Legends Sports Bar & Grill, 2110 W. Crawford St. (September 11) Routine Inspection
– Made on-site salsa had temperature of 46 degrees F, sliced tomatoes had temperature of 47 degrees F, diced tomatoes had temperature of 49 degrees F, off the core leaves of lettuce had temperature of 48 degrees F, shredded lettuce had temperature of 47 degrees F, shredded cheese had temperature of 48 degrees F, sliced cheese had temperature of 48 degrees F, sliced ham had temperature of 49 degrees F, sliced turkey had temperature of 49 degrees F. All items inside M3 make table top with interior temperature of 52 degrees F. Corrected on site: voluntary destruction of all items.
– Open container of cottage cheese was not date marked when opened. Corrected on site: dated September 9/September 15. Per person in charge, item placed inside glass door reach-in cooler.
– Open package of hot dogs were not date marked when opened. Corrected on site: person in charge said hot dogs were opened on September 3. Item was diposed of due to being out of date.
– All opened and made on-site foods dated for eight days versus seven days. Corrected on site: educated and foods redated for seven days.
– Jar of yeast stored on shelf touching samples of fry cleaner and sterno. Corrected on site: moved chemicals to chemical storage shelf.
– No thermometers present inside expo area reach-in cooler, M3 make table or breakfast area reach-in cooler.
– Fly strip hanging above prep table in northwest side of kitchen. Corrected on site: removed fly strip.

Mattie’s Grill & Chill, 1844 N. 9th St. (September 12) First Operational Inspection After Licensing
– Raw shell eggs were stored above box of fresh lettuce. No leakage detected. Corrected on site: moved eggs to raw food area on the top shelf.

Oakdale Elementary School, 811 E. Iron Ave. (September 11) Routine Inspection
– No violations.

Rod’s VII, 1619 W. Magnolia Rd. (September 12) Routine Inspection
– Individually packaged biscuits were not labeled according to law. Corrected on site: added label to container of biscuits.
– Individual packages of candy charms sold out of a box that was missing the ingredeint label. Corrected on site: removed from sale.
– Self service iced tea dispensers were not covered. Corrected on site: Lids put on dispensers.
– Coffee portioned out into filters were setting uncovered in self service beverage area. Corrected on site: coffee covered.
– No chlorine test strips available. Corrected on site: supplied establishment with approximately six inches of test strips.
– No business name on ice bagged in-store.
– Dirty side of three vat sink had an accumulation of unused items and was not clean to site.
– Water observed on the floor of the walk-in cooler, appears to be from condensation drain pipe.

Salina West Alternative School, 501 W. Cloud St. (September 12) Routine Inspection
– No violations.

St. Mary’s Elementary School, 304 E. Cloud St. (September 11) Routine Inspection
– Mechanical warewasher had no detectable sanitizer and plate temperature was only 140 degrees F. Corrected on site: installed new jug of Chlorine sanitzier, tested at 100 ppm Chlorine. Per person in charge, has called for annual routine service and will be calling for service again on day of inspection.

VFW Post #1432, 1108 W. Crawford St. (September 11) Routine Inspection
– Sliced tomatoes and cut lettuce inside three door reach-in cooler were not date marked. Corrected on site: dated September 8/September 14, per person in charge.
– Open can of nacho cheese inside white reach-in cooler were not date marked when opened. Corrected on site: dated September 8/September 14, per person in charge.
– No thermometer present inside white reach-in cooler.
