Salina Woman Escapes Injury in Topeka Crash

TOPEKA – A Salina woman riding in a passenger car escaped injury in a two vehicle crash Monday afternoon.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, Bondetta Vaughn, 61, Wichita, was driving a 2014 Nissan Sentra at Interstate 70 and Gage Boulevard, about 100 feet north of Southwest Emland Drive in Topeka, just before 4 p.m.

As she was preparing to make a left turn, Vaughn was rear-ended by a 2005 Toyota Camry driven by Terry L. Blankenship, 56, Topeka.

A passenger in Vaughn’s car, Sylvester G. Carter, 55, Bogue, was taken to The University of Kansas Health System St. Francis Campus for treatment of a possible injury, the extent of which was not immediately known. Blakenship, Vaughn, and another passenger in Vaughn’s car, Loretta L. Alexander, 51, Salina, were not injured.

All occupants of both vehicles were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash, according to the Highway Patrol.
