CARBONDALE, ILL. – A Salina man was indicted earlier this week in connection with the 2016 shooting of a Carbondale, Illinois police officer.
According to Michael C. Carr, the state’s attorney for Jackson County, an indictment was returned against Alex B. Karcher, 24, in relation to the shooting of Officer Trey Harris during a police chase on July 31, 2016.
A Jackson County grand jury returned the indictment Thursday against Karcher on felony charges of aggravated battery and aggravated discharge of a firearm.
Karcher is charged with firing several shots at Harris. Officials say one shot wounded Harris in the eye, causing him to lose vision.
Authorities say Harris was among officers chasing Karcher and three other men after gunshots were fired in a dispute over 15 pounds of marijuana. Karcher was arrested on drug charges soon after the shooting, according to Carr.
