Salina Man Dies in I-70 Crash

SALINE COUNTY – A Salina man died in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 70 in Saline County early Friday evening.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, Shane Edward Hale, 38, Lenexa, was driving a 2017 Peterbilt semi eastbound on I-70, about three miles east of Salina, just after 5:15 p.m., when a strong gust of wind caused him to lose control.

The semi jack-knifed into the westbound lanes and struck a 2011 Subaru Legacy driven by Harry A. Taylor, 60. Both vehicles came to rest on the north shoulder.

Taylor was pronounced dead at the scene and transported to a Salina funeral home. Hale and a passenger in his semi, Renita M. Hale, 37, Lenexa, were not injured.

Both drivers were properly restrained at the time of the crash, but the passenger in the semi was not, according to the Highway Patrol.
