District officials said the outbreak has affected over 25% of the district’s students. As a result, school will be closed on Friday and all school activities have been cancelled through Sunday.
The district says flu is the primary culprit, but there is also strep throat going around, which has also affected students and staff.
On Wednesday, thermometer manufacturer Kinsa reported that Kansas is currently the sickest state in the nation.
Kinsa records daily data to see where flu-like symptoms are spreading in real-time. Based on data the company collected Wednesday, over 1% of Kansas’ population, or about 29,000 people, are sick statewide.
Officials with USD 422 in Kiowa County also cancelled classes for Thursday and Friday this week due to the flu outbreak.
