Mild Temperatures, High Winds and Elevated Fire Danger Thursday

Winds will pick up significantly Thursday afternoon out of the southwest. Wind gusts up to 40 mph are possible in some areas. High profile vehicles should use caution on the roads.

Warm temperatures are expected on Thursday. High temperatures will climb into the lower 60’s.

With above normal temperatures, low relative humidity, and gusty winds in the forecast on Thursday, very high to possibly extreme grassland fire danger is expected across central, south central, and southeast Kansas. Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged.

  • Thursday – Sunny, with a high near 62. Breezy, with a south wind 7 to 12 mph increasing to 18 to 23 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 34 mph.
  • Thursday Night – Clear, with a low around 41. Breezy, with a south wind 21 to 25 mph, with gusts as high as 38 mph.
  • Friday – Mostly sunny, with a high near 57. Breezy, with a south wind 13 to 23 mph becoming north northwest in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 32 mph.
  • Friday Night – Partly cloudy, with a low around 27. West wind 5 to 13 mph.
  • Saturday – Sunny, with a high near 53.
