An Indiana man is in the Saline County Jail after allegedly spraying a substance into the face of an employee at a north Salina convenience store early Thursday morning.

Police say Nicholas Mandrell, 29, of Mishawaka, Indidana, was behaving strangely inside Casey’s General Store, 500 N. Ohio, at about 4:15 a.m. He was confronted by store employee Cameron Cullen, 24, after he was observed spraying a can of carburetor cleaner while walking through the store.

When Cullen confronted him, Mandrell sprayed him in the eyes with the substance and then left the store.

Police found Mandrell in the parking lot of the store and placed him under arrest. He was booked into the Saline County Jail on multiple requested charges including aggravated battery, misdemeanor theft and disorderly conduct.

Cullen was treated by paramedics at the scene, according to police.
