Hays Man Killed in Ellsworth County Crash

ELLSWORTH COUNTY – A Hays man died early Saturday morning in a two vehicle crash in Ellsworth County.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, Dustin S. Karst, 39, was driving a 2016 Ford F-250 northbound on K-14 Highway, about five miles south of Ellsworth, just before 3:30 a.m.

Karst crossed the center line into the southbound lane at mile marker 150 and struck a 2010 Peterbilt semi head on. Karst’s pick up veered off to the right and came to rest in the east ditch. The semi, driven by Brian K. Coleman, 49, Tecumseh, Okla., came to rest in the west ditch.

Karst was pronounced dead at the scene and transported to Parsons Funeral Home in Ellsworth. Coleman and a passenger in the sleeper of his semi, Tina Coleman, 49, Tecumseh, Okla., were taken to Salina Regional Health Center for treatment of their injuries, the extent of which were not immediately known.

It was not known if Karst was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. Coleman was properly restrained, according to the Highway Patrol.
