Salina Police and USD 305 officials are investigating a possible threat found at Lakewood Middle School Thursday.
“On February 15, graffiti alleging a potential shooting was found at Lakewood Middle School. Administration immediately consulted with Salina Police to investigate the credibility of the threat,” said Jennifer Bradford-Vernon, USD 305 Public Information Director, in an email sent to Lakewood parents Thursday. “I want to reassure you that Salina USD 305 takes all threats seriously and works with local law enforcement to ensure the safety of all staff and students.”
Authorities say the threat warned of a possible school shooting and was written in pencil on the wall of a girl’s restroom. The note was found at around 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
Parents, guardians, students, staff and community are reminded to share information and report anything suspicious or concerning.
School is in session at Lakewood Friday with a continued focus on safety. The district says the school’s resource officer, as well an additional police officer, will on hand throughout the school day.
The district said anyone with questions or concerns can contact the school at 785-309-4000.
